Opulent Oboe and Scintillating Symphony
BlueWater Principal Oboist Martin Neubert is featured soloist in the Neo-Classical concerto by Lukas Foss. Charming melodies overflow in this lesser known American work. Symphony #103 is one of Haydn’s twelve “London” symphonies and was enthusiastically reviewed at its premiere as “a fine mixture of grandeur and fancy.” Its nickname comes from the long drumroll that begins the piece. Opening the concert is a favorite by Beethoven. Tiffany Chang, formerly of Baldwin Wallace University, makes her BlueWater debut.

Bruckner’s Adagio, called “one of the deepest chamber works since Beethoven” is arranged for string orchestra by Lucas Drew. Prolific composer Vivaldi reworked his own material into the Concerto for Two Cellos. Capping the program are the ethereal tunes of Schubert’s Fifth Symphony. Daniel Meyer, Artistic Director of the Erie Philharmonic, conducts.
